The Nametag Builder

Design a nametag from scratch in your browser, see it on your own camera, and export it.

The Nametag Builder is a design canvas for nametags. You start from one of the six built-in styles, or from nothing. Then you move every piece around, restyle it, and check the result over your own camera before you export.

Open it at builder.nametags.site. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

Where your work lives. The builder saves your design in this browser as you work. The status bar says Saved in this browser when it’s up to date. Another browser or another computer won’t see it. To move a design, use Export → Save design file and open that file on the other side.

What it’s for

  • Trying out a look for your company’s nametags before you roll one out.
  • Making a one-off tag, such as a transparent PNG to use as an overlay in streaming or recording software.
  • Showing a designer or brand owner what’s possible with the six styles.

The builder isn’t connected to your organization’s account yet. A design you make here can’t be sent to the desktop app or the Zoom app. The styles people pick in the app are the six built-in ones, and brand logos and backgrounds are set by your admin in the admin console.

The screen at a glance

Area What’s there
Top bar, left The design’s name (double-click to rename), Undo and Redo.
Top bar, centre Start from a style, and Preview to see the design without handles and guides.
Top bar, right Preview on camera, Export, and the ⋯ menu.
Left panel Details (your name, title, company, department and logo), Insert, Canvas (the background picture) and Layers.
Canvas A 1280 × 720 frame, the same shape as a video call.
Right panel The inspector, which shows the settings for whatever is selected.
Status bar The frame size, how many pieces are on the canvas, what’s selected, and whether your work is saved.

Starting a design

When the canvas is empty, the builder opens Start your nametag. Pick one of these:

  • Blank canvas, to build the tag up piece by piece.
  • One of the six styles: Classic, Broadcast, Aurora, Daylight, Editorial or Terminal. Each card is a live drawing of that style with your details.
  • Open a design file, to carry on with a design you saved earlier.

A style is laid out the way it looks on a call and then taken apart. You get one group with the logo, your name, and each detail line as its own piece. All of them can be moved and restyled.

You can change styles at any time with Start from a style in the top bar. Picking a style replaces the tag on the canvas but keeps your background picture.

Your details

The Details panel holds the text a tag shows: Name, Title, Company and Department, plus a Logo (PNG or SVG; square works best). Every piece bound to one of these fields follows what you type. If a field is empty, its piece shows the field’s name in faded text so you can still see where it sits.

Changes you make in Details aren’t recorded in undo history. Everything you do on the canvas is.

The tour

The first time you open the builder, a six-step tour points out the Details panel, the style picker, the canvas, the inspector, the camera and Export. Use → or Enter to go forward, ← to go back, and Esc to skip. You can replay it any time from ⋯ → Take the tour.

The ⋯ menu

  • Open design file replaces the canvas with a saved .json design.
  • Take the tour runs the tour again.
  • Appearance sets the builder to Match system, Light or Dark.
  • Clear canvas empties the canvas and keeps your details. You can undo it.
