Your nametag

Every setting in the desktop app — what your tag says, how it looks, and your camera.

The Nametags window has a live preview at the top and three tabs below it: You, Appearance and Advanced. The same window, with small differences, also runs inside Zoom.

The preview

The preview shows your tag as your call will see it.

  • Use camera turns on your camera behind the preview, so you can check the tag against your real video. Stop camera turns it off again.
  • Save frame takes a still of the preview.
    • When you’re signed in, it’s saved to your account as your saved frame, replacing any earlier one.
    • When you’re signed out, it’s downloaded as a PNG.

The switch at the top right of the window pauses Nametags. See Pausing.

You

What your tag says.

Field Notes
Name Your name as you want people to read it.
Role Your job title.
Company Your company. If your organization sets a department, it’s shown after the company as Company · Department.
Logo Click the circle to pick a PNG or JPEG. Remove takes it off.

Your details and logo are saved to your account, so they follow you to other Macs and to Zoom.

Fields your organization controls

Your organization can decide what each field may show. A field it controls keeps its value on screen but can’t be edited, and shows a Locked badge (“Set by your organisation”). If your organization hides a field completely, it doesn’t appear on your tag at all.

What you typed before a field was locked isn’t thrown away. If your organization unlocks the field later, your own text comes back.

Appearance

How your tag looks.

Setting What it does
Style One of six looks: Classic, Broadcast, Aurora, Daylight, Editorial or Terminal. Hover over one to see what it’s for.
Position Which corner of your video the tag sits in: top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right. Your organization may lock this.
Size How large the tag is compared with your video.
Rounding How round the tag’s corners are.
Background The tag’s colour. Aurora uses its own gradient, so the colour picker is hidden while that style is selected.
Meeting background A picture that replaces what’s behind you, for everyone in the meeting. It doesn’t change the tag itself.

If your organization is running a seasonal meeting background, the Meeting background setting tells you. Picking your own picture uses yours instead.

The six styles

  • Classic reads well on anything. It’s the safe choice.
  • Broadcast is a square lower-third, like a news caption.
  • Aurora is a full pill with a colour wash.
  • Daylight is a light tag, for dark rooms and dark clothing.
  • Editorial has a serif name and a quieter detail line.
  • Terminal is monospace, for people who ship.

Advanced

Setting What it does
Camera Which of your Mac’s cameras Nametags reads from. You can’t change it while the camera is running. If the chosen camera is unplugged, Nametags switches to another one by itself.
Mirror my video Flips your video left to right for everyone in the call, not just for you. It’s off by default, so text behind you reads the right way round.
Blur my background Blurs what’s behind you. This happens on your Mac.
Signed in / Not signed in Shows your account, with Sign out or Sign in.
