Privacy and data
What happens to your video, what Nametags stores, and what usage data it collects.
Your video
Your video is processed on your own device.
- Desktop app: your camera, your tag, the background blur and the meeting background are all combined on your Mac. The result goes to the Nametags camera, and from there only to the meeting app you chose.
- Zoom app: Nametags draws your tag as an image and hands it to Zoom, which adds it to your video inside the Zoom client.
In neither case is your video sent to Nametags.
The one exception is Save frame. When you’re signed in, it uploads a single still of your preview to your account, which can include your face. It’s kept in private storage and replaces your previous saved frame. When you’re signed out, it downloads to your computer instead.
What your account stores
| Stored | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Your name, title, company, department, logo and tag placement | What you type, your Zoom profile, or your identity provider through SSO mapping. |
| Your email address and how you sign in | Your sign-in. |
| Your organization, group and role | Your email domain, and your admins. |
| Your meeting background and saved frame | Only if you set them. |
Fields your organization hides are never sent to your apps. Your admins can see and edit your nametag fields in the admin console.
Logos and backgrounds are stored so the apps can load them without signing in: anyone with an image’s exact address can open it, but the addresses can’t be guessed. Saved frames are kept in private storage.
Usage data
Nametags records how the product is used, so the team can see what works and what breaks. Examples are app opened, sign-in completed, camera extension installed, call started and ended with its length and frame rate, update installed, and errors by category.
- No event carries free text. Your name, title, company, and anything else you type are never part of a usage event. When you edit your tag, the event records which fields changed, not what you changed them to. An automated test enforces this on every change to the code.
- Errors are recorded as fixed categories, not as messages.
- Before you sign in, events are tied to a random ID for your device. After you sign in, they’re tied to your account. Your email, name, organization, group and role are attached to your profile in the analytics tool.
- If you’re offline, the desktop app keeps events in a small file and sends them later.
The Nametag Builder records how its features are used, the same way, and nothing about the content of your designs. Your designs stay in your browser.
Your sign-in
The desktop app keeps your sign-in in your Mac’s Keychain. You stay signed in for up to 90 days. Signing out ends the session on that device. See Signing in and your account.
